Christmas 2011

The week leading up to Christmas I had a couple orders to get out, but once that was done, I was able to get myself ready for Christmas. I did have a bathrobe to make for a friend (which I didn’t finish until Friday night) but other than that I got everything ready for the family in need and for our Christmas. But then, Christmas Eve day I was looking on Etsy at different style robes and came across one that was called a cuddle robe. It was reversible with cotton and mink fabric, with hoods. Now, I knew I couldn’t tackle a hood the night before Christmas since I’ve never done that before, but I was sure I could get two robes made…ah, never again will I decide that the night before Christmas. The story to follow…maybe not…suffice it to say I went to bed at 4 am and they still weren’t done. At least they are done now and the boys love them!

We were supposed to have a family over for Christmas Eve dinner, but Caleb started getting really sick on Thursday night. We didn’t know what it was but decided to cancel dinner just in case. It was bad enough that we took him to Urgent Care at 1 am thinking he had strep, which he didn’t. But it was still bad.

Before we went to bed, we opened our Christmas Eve presents, which were jammies. They weren’t matching or homemade, but I promise next year they will be one of the two, if not both! But nevertheless, we got in our jammies, decided to read some of the new Christmas books we got from the Scholastic order, including A Pirate’s Night Before Christmas. I don’t think the boys really got it, but Jon and I laughed quite a bit! We read Luke 2 and went to bed. Surprisingly, the boys went to bed really easily and didn’t make a peep. The picture below is Caleb reading Snowball Soup, which he LOVES!

That might be because we told them Santa wouldn’t come if they didn’t go to sleep, so they were out fast! I should also mention, the boys watched Santa on the Norad tracker online so much- we hooked the laptop up to the TV and they just sat there watching. The first time Santa went down to make a delivery, Caleb was so scared because “Santa crashed”. Every other time he was so excited to see the deliveries. And in case you’ve never watched the tracker, at times Santa makes deliveries in the ocean as well. So I had to explain that mermaids needed gifts too. Then Caleb decided that the fish and turtles were getting them too! It was so much fun this year with Caleb really getting the Santa concept…and man was he into gifts also!

It was so special having Christmas on Sunday this year. The boys woke up at 730, but Carolee was still sleeping so we didn’t get downstairs to do stockings until 830. We did stockings, had breakfast, and then had church at 10 am. It was a musical performance and the numbers were very inspiring and uplifting. The last number was Silent Night. They had a hole group of people stand up and sign it while the rest of the congregation was singing and the spirit was so strong at church. It was such a great church service and I was grateful for it. The Spirit was strong and carried with us the rest of the day.

After church we took a few quick family pictures with the matching ties and skirts, and then came home. We didn’t even start opening presents until around noon. It was a wonderful morning.

They boys in the matching ties. For some reason I didn't get one with just Carolee and I.
Before church I was given my present from the kids; a baby necklace with 3 individual charms with their birthstones. It was such a sweet present and Jon said the boys even picked it out themselves. My other presents were the Dominion and Dominion: Intrigue games, which we had already opened and started playing before Christmas.

Jon got a couple books, a Superman monster truck, and Cabela’s Survival Game for the Wii. I have never seen him so surprised since we’ve been married. I sure did good on that one. I actually gave the boys a choice between that game and a few other things, but I was pretty sure the boys would pick that. And they did! He also got some homemade Superman bookmarks and he loves them!

Now for the kids…I can’t even begin to go over what they got. They got cars and trucks and planes, radio control cars, laptops, games, their robes, and so much more. Carolee got lots of toys and really had a great time. She was really overwhelmed towards the end, but she still had fun. Caleb was immediately ready to open presents and ripped them up in no time. It took Skyler a little longer, but after seeing Caleb he quickly got the idea. Carolee actually started going for the paper towards the end too. All in all, it was a great day. Wonderful to see the joy and excitement in their eyes!

Socks from Great Grandma Fay (Mark's mom.)
The boys in their bathrobes. They are reversible so you can see what each side looks like. And yes that's me in the background.

Later for dinner we went over to Brenda’s for dinner and exchanged gifts with them as well. I had Bryan for my secret gift and gave him a mug that says “Only my cat understands me.” Anyone who knows Bryan knows that’s perfect. That and hot chocolate for the coldest person in the history of the world was great! :) Dinner was yummy and we had a good time. Then we came home and spent some time playing. We have played with toys now for 2 ½ days and it’s been fun. (This was originally typed on Wednesday.)
